Our People

Conlan Cummings offers a diverse and expert group of professionals whose experience, knowledge and specialties provide our clients with industry leading advice.

Gerard Conlan

llb (hons), PARTNER

Gerard graduated with honours in law from the University of Melbourne in 1970, and was admitted to practice on 1 April 1971 – the day after he was married.

He was employed for a brief period at a city law firm and, unusually, was granted the right to private practice within the firm which enabled him to build his own clientele in varied fields of law. Gerard's mentor during this period was Alwyn Goodman, and the two enjoyed a long-lasting friendship, and weekly battle of German Whist, until Alwyn’s death in 2005.

After forty years of practice, Gerard has developed a broad expertise in the law, with a special concern for its commercial applications. In 1990, Gerard was part of the first group accredited as business law specialists by the Law Institute of Victoria.

Aside from the law, Gerard’s other great interest is sport, and cricket in particular. Over several decades he has built a vast library of books, ‘cigarette cards’, and other sporting memorabilia.

Elizabeth Cummings

Elizabeth completed an Arts degree at the University of Melbourne, majoring in history, before following in the footsteps of her father and brother and enrolling in Law. She graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Laws in 2004.

Elizabeth worked within the firm as a law clerk during her university days before commencing practice as a lawyer in 2005. In the decade since, Elizabeth has enjoyed the breadth of experience offered by general practice while developing particular expertise in family law (both property and child matters), property law, business/ commercial law, succession planning and deceased estate administration.

Elizabeth became a partner of the firm, alongside her father and mentor, Gerard, in January 2016.

Outside of work, Elizabeth loves to amble around Melbourne, while pursuing her passion for shopping, coffee and food.

Simon Curry

LLB (HONS), Lawyer

Simon qualified as a solicitor in England after studying law at the University of Warwick.  After moving to Australia in 2010, he was admitted as an Australian Lawyer and joined Conlan Cummings as a solicitor in 2011.

Simon has a special interest in business law and disputes. His aim is to identify the real issues between the parties at an early stage, ensuring the right steps are taken early on to obtain the best result for the client – whether that be a settlement strategy or court action.

Away from the office, he enjoys reading, writing and walking when he can find time to spare from family duties.

Caroline Khoury

LLB (HONS), Lawyer

Graduating from Victoria University in 2007 Caroline has spent the past decade practising in all areas of family law, representing clients in both the Family Court and the Federal Circuit Court. With an understanding that seeking assistance from a family lawyer can be a daunting and stressful experience, Caroline aims always to provide practical, tailored and outcome oriented advice.

Caroline has a strong interest in resolving matters outside of court, but where court becomes a necessary course, Caroline draws on years of experience to achieve the best possible outcome in a cost and time efficient manner.

Out of hours, Caroline enjoys exploring Melbourne with her husband and daughters, enjoys reading, and is a self-proclaimed ‘foodie’ who loves to explore regional Victoria for local cuisine.
